5 things I can’t live without…

Posted on by Gigi in My Life, My Style Comments Off on 5 things I can’t live without…

I admit, I have a lot of stuff/junk/possessions. Yes, I’m a hoarder- a chic one, but a hoarder none the less. So I was thinking about what 5 things would I chose if I had to limit myself to 5 items, really difficult but, here goes my list- at least this is what I feel as though I could not live without today…;)

1. iphone 6 plus

i phone 6 plus

I love my phone, this is the first phone I have ever fallen in love with! I love that it is large and I don’t always need my reading glasses. I have all my music at my fingertips, and I love the camera, I have gotten some really good shots with this phone and Siri is my friend and personal assistant…

2. Coconut Oil

This is the hardest working multi use product I have… I use it in my hair every day, on my body after I shower, I cook with it, I put it in smoothies, and I even make ice cream with it…

3. A hawt pair of shoes

I love my shoes…and yes…they are not the sensible kind, but life is short and they make me feel good! This pink/nude Valentino Rockstud was my one splurge for spring- and I have no regrets…love them!

4. A nice journal and uni-ball pen

I know I have my iphone, but there is something special about writing with a nice pen and journal, I’m always picking up quirky ones from little boutiques here and there. This is my current one.

5. Tom Ford- Cafe Rose

I love perfume and  like to change up every so often so this is my current fav. It is a beautiful sexy scent, don’t let the name fool you this is not your grandma’s rose perfume, it is a sultry spicy rose scent- very complex. Tom Ford’s description is accurant “Enticing. Exotic. Seductive. Cafe Rose descends into a hidden labyrinth, where roses’ fine breeding gives way to darker pleasures.”

What are your top 5 must haves?

Happy Wednesday!

What is Luxurious ?

Posted on by Gigi in Life Style, My Style 3 Comments
"Stuff"

“Stuff”

Luxury does not have to be a label or be expensive. In our consumer driven society we are encouraged to accumulate “things”, the latest model car, or the “it” bag, or a pair of those “red bottom” shoes…I have been guilty of all the above, but I know these things are not the key to a luxurious life. Time is a luxury, savoring a moment is the ultimate luxury. It is so easy to get caught up in the rat race, rushing from point A to point B, never taking a break.

“Luxurious” is a state of mind, it is the manner in which you go about your day to day activities. Every other corner now has a drive thru Starbucks, yes, they are convenient, but luxurious? NO. Waking up a little earlier and making your own coffee or tea, using your china, and sitting down for 5 minutes or so, that is luxurious. Taking a bath with a nice fragrant oil, instead of the rushed shower, or putting pretty lingerie under your outfit, are simple ways to turn up your luxury dial. Write a letter on some nice stationary and send it to a friend or lover instead of shooting another cryptic text or email. Basically in our “light speed” life…SLOW DOWN! What is the real benefit of rushing? Let me know…

21 Ways to add a little luxury to your life:

1. Fresh Flowers-make your own arrangement, from your garden, the flower mart or pick up a few from Trader’s Joe-

2. Spontaneity- be flexible-don’t be so rigid- don’t think about it- just do something out of your comfort zone

3. Unplug. Shut it Down. Look across the table and make eye contact without a device in your hand or on the table

4. Prepare a meal from scratch- not something you made last week and stuck in the freezer, but something fresh

5. Have a dessert and savor it-

6. Plant a garden, it can be a little herb garden- just grow something that you can harvest

7. Invite friends over instead of “meeting” at a place

8. Sleep in, preferable in something pretty…or nada.

9. Appreciate where you are in your life.

10. Get a massage.

11. Photograph a moment through your eyes- take the time to capture something you find beautiful-our phones now have amazing cameras

12. Listen actively.

13. Play dress-up…put on a gown and go to the store-and see the reaction.

14. Dance.

15. Music.

16. Burn decadent candles

17. Sustainable lifestyle-live in your “lane” but do it well- nothing worse than living on the edge- been there, not fun.

18. Always work on your body- inside and out

19. Cultivate your friendships- it is not the quantity but the quality–learned this one the hard way.

20. Take time to smell the roses…

21. LOVE YOU AND NEVER STOP- BE YOUR OWN BFF

Happy Friday! Have a Wonderful Weekend.

Gigi

I am an equal opportunity shopper, everything from couture to TJ Maxx, Target, vintage, mixing expensive with cheap, old with new, wearing evening during the day and yoga cloths at night are a few of the things that make fashion fun, breaking rules and finding your style. I love shopping in my closet and discovering a new way to wear an item. Shoes are my weakness, I think this stems from having to wear corrective black and white oxfords until the age of 10, I’m making up for all the summer sandals and dress shoes that I missed out on.

Dress and purse from Antropologie, Jacket from TJ Maxx, Azzedine Alaia shoes, bracelets from David Yurman, J Crew, and birthday present and Ray Band glasses.

Interesting article on “power flats” in the WSJ, read it here. Tell me what you think.

I really want to get into wearing scarves, here is a good video with examples of how to wear a scarf.

Last but not least if you are following my hair routine this is the same “do” day 8.

Beautiful Weekend

My Casbah

This past weekend was magical. I hosted a moroccan themed soiree for my J&J group. We had a tiny budget to work with, so I had to come up with some creative decorations to transform my home into a “casbah”. My husband Reggie being a true renaissance man, made panels for the porch, and a large slipcover for an outdoor cushion I scored at Coast Plus for pennies. Orange, Pink, red with a touch of blue were the colors of the night. I was thrilled when we found this sheer gauzy orange fabric at Home Fabrics & Rugs in Cerritos, I knew it would be perfect for the porch. Target had loads of Halloween decorations, so when I spotted these orange sparkly light balls I snatched them up not sure what I was going to do with them. Reggie figured out a way to hang them, so we put three of them together to make a nice chandelier, combined with the blue holiday lights I put on the railing it was really pretty. This was my favorite spot.

I organized a detailed potluck sign up list, (yes-potlucks can work) that consisted of bite sized hors d’s oeuvres, mini desserts and libations. We had everything  samosas, meatballs, crab cakes, veggies, mini cupcakes, cookies, strawberries, sangria, cosmo station, champagne, and a variety of good wines. I went to the LA  Flower Mart Saturday morning and realized that I should go a regular basis. It took less than 30 minutes to fill my car with fresh blooms. I love walking around and seeing the assortment of flowers that are available, and the prices are really good. The sunflowers were $2.00 a bunch.
